Singles vs doubles

Singles give each paddler full control of their own boat — independent handling, lighter loads, and the ability to set your own line. Doubles trade independence for shared effort and cargo capacity, which is useful for pairs and mixed-experience groups.

Best for
  • • Experienced solo paddlers
  • • Independent handling and pace
  • • Lighter or shorter loads
Not ideal for
  • • First-time sea kayakers
  • • Groups wanting to share paddling effort
  • • Paddlers without self-rescue practice
Readiness: Single kayaks are recommended for paddlers with prior open-water sea kayak experience. See Safety & Readiness.
